DescriptionGeorge Clark (1902-1978) remains a tremendously underrated cartoonist. Clark employed a beautiful fine and varied line in his Side Glances and the Neighbors panels, along with absolutely wonderful figure work. I’m very pleased to offer an early example of Clark’s Side Glances work, which is fairly uncommon. This piece is from 1933, and features two older parents with their son, talking with the son’s teacher. The gag reads: "You see we have rather neglected Wilfred's Education -- Thinking all along he was going to inherit money." Clark is finding a bit of humor at the height of the Depression, referring to the fact that there wouldn't be any money left for the son to inherit. Lovely drawing combined with a strong composition. Clark laid the drawing down onto a larger board, with his caption written below. The total size is 13½”x 10”, and the condition is VG+. There is some light toning on the front, and darker toning on the back. The drawing itself is in excellent condition. $100.00 + 9.00 Priority shipping.Social/Sharing |
