Description
December 9, 1944... a Saturday.

The Japanese aircraft carrier Jun'yō was torpedoed and damaged in the Strait of Formosa by the American submarines.

German submarine U-387 was depth charged and sunk in the Barents Sea by the Royal Navy corvette Bamborough Castle.

German submarine U-862 shelled the Greek tanker SS Illios off the southern South Australian coast.
