DescriptionAlright, here is a real treat for the Martin Emond fans out there - a truly amazing find! This is the original artwork for an unpublished comic - portfolio piece - that he created in late 1989 or early 1990, called "657". While studying at the Auckland Institute of Technology (now A.U.T.) his primary interest was in comics, and so at the advice of a friend, he created this "sample" comic as a way to showcase his talent, in effort of breaking into the industry. He made a handful of copies and sent them out to various comic editors. One of the people he sent it to was Pat Mills (writer/editor), who ultimately gave Marty his "big break". While "657" was not officially published (outside of a few homemade copies), this led to his first professional work (i.e Accident Man") published in Toxic Magazine (1991), written by Pat Mills. This led to his work on "The Missionary", and ultimately White Trash. This is just one of the pages from "657" - please be sure to check out all the others I have posted. Unfortunately, page #7 was not part of the lot I acquired, and might be lost to time. If anyone knows of it's whereabouts please reach out as I would like to complete the collection. Enjoy!Social/Sharing |

Awsm to see the originals again after all these years. I was the friend of Martins that suggested he do a portfolio comic piece that summer and send it to the UK attn Pat Mills etc. Myself and Martin were at AUT at the same time and were good friends. I've still got one page of White Trash, a 1st printing (hah) photostat copy of 657 that Martin gave me and some other bits and bobs in my collection. Not sure what happened to the missing page from this issue maybe the Estate has it or the Illicit folks?

Hey there! Thanks for the comment!!! I'm a huge fan of Martin's work - I have several white trash pages as well as others as well. I actually got these pages from Steve at Illicit a few years back. Sure wish someone could locate the missing page. Oh well, so happy to have what I do. Take care!!!

Wow Brian, this is an amazing find !!
And your collection is really incredible !
Martin is my favorite comic artist by far, I have almost all his bibliography.
One day I will have one of is an original art, I am sure !
Sometimes I wonder how CRAZY would be his art today if he was still around ..
