Description
Alright, here is a real treat for the Martin Emond fans out there - a truly amazing find! This is the original artwork for an unpublished comic - portfolio piece - that he created in late 1989 or early 1990, called "657". While studying at the Auckland Institute of Technology (now A.U.T.) his primary interest was in comics, and so at the advice of a friend, he created this "sample" comic as a way to showcase his talent, in effort of breaking into the industry. He made a handful of copies and sent them out to various comic editors. One of the people he sent it to was Pat Mills (writer/editor), who ultimately gave Marty his "big break". While "657" was not officially published (outside of a few homemade copies), this led to his first professional work (i.e Accident Man") published in Toxic Magazine (1991), written by Pat Mills. This led to his work on "The Missionary", and ultimately White Trash. This is just one of the pages from "657" - please be sure to check out all the others I have posted. Unfortunately, page #7 was not part of the lot I acquired, and might be lost to time. If anyone knows of it's whereabouts please reach out as I would like to complete the collection. Enjoy!
Side note on this piece: One of the captions on the overlay starts with "Dear Mr. Bisley", which I believe refers to Simon Bisley, who Marty lived with for a brief period of time, while working in the UK and getting started with his work on for Toxic.
