Description
The winner of a commission of their choice on Ebay requested that I draw an 11 x 17" of The X-Men's most deadliest and most personal adversary, the Master of Magnetism himself, Magneto. Further, he requested the style be reminiscent of Jim Lee's run on the book twenty years ago but in black and white. Taking inspiration from X-Men #1, I decided on demonstrating the power of Erik Lensherr by having him float in space in his magnetic force field in orbit around the Earth. I took influence from Gary Frank's cape style in rendering the majesty of Magneto's in space while still staying true to the feel Jim established. I utilized cool and warm gray markers for the rendering of both Magneto and Earth, but I showed distinction between the force bubble and the planet via lighter values and even an HB pencil. I also managed to convey the same style of energy conduction from Magneto's outstretched hand as Jim had put forward. To get across the notion that this is a light source, I left the right side of Magneto's helmet in pencils, and used the same technique for outlining the details on the Earth's surface inside the bubble. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the end result and I hope my client is as well. You can find my monthly commission auction the first of every month. The link will be shared on my gallery along with the others.
