DescriptionKathy and I made our first appearance at SDCC in 2017. We'd never tried to go to SDCC. There were a variety of reasons, but the difficulty of getting tickets/rooms and the fact that it conflicted with our annual vacation on the banks of the Guadalupe River were the major ones.In 2016, the CBLDF Kickstarter for the book She Changed Comics offered two SDCC pass perks for SDCC 2016. I asked Kathy if she was interested. She was, but neither one of us wanted to change our 2016 plans. So, I wrote to the CBLDF and asked if they could make them for 2017. They contacted the con and the con said, "Yes." I pledged and we were off! I booked a trip on United at a nice fare (we were able to book a year early) and my friend, writer/artist/SDCC exhibitor, Thom Zahler provided my room reservation. Victory! We had no plans for the con; we just wanted to go and see what it was like. A couple of weeks before the show, IDW announced a dinner with Walt and Louise Simonson at SDCC. If we bought tickets, we'd have dinner at Fogo de Chao with Walt and Louise, get the new Beta Ray Bill Artist Edition signed by Walt and stamped with a gold foil seal representing the dinner, a copy of the incentive edition of the Ragnarok Vol. 2 HC which includes a sketch of Ragnarok Thor plus the gold embossed seal, and (best of all) a headshot by Walt of any character that we wished. I initially wanted Manhunter, but opted for Odin since a) I have a Thor sketch and b) Odin has the best hats. Head gear is important in a head shot! If by chance you don't believe that Odin's headgear is a popular topic, here are three places to learn more about it! Yes, there are websites about Odin's hats and clothes. I’m sure that some of you don't believe me that there are websites record and document Marvel’s Orin’s haberdashery (and his wardrobe generally) so here is a link about his 5000 hats. Did you think that there was just one? If so, you are wrong! Check this out. And an article on whether or not he never wore the same outfit twice. He was into fast fashion. I am really pleased with what Walt did, but wait until you see Kathy's. Click on the image below to see it in all it's glory. ![]() Social/Sharing |

Holy cow! How wonderful! Simonson's line and understanding of form has always been terrific, and he knocked it out of the park on this one. Congrats Alex!

Might be the best I have seen of the bunch from that dinner. Grats Alex on a great choice - you can tell that Walt had fun doing this one!

It's seeing pieces like this that convince me Marvel should put the man back on the book on a monthly basis. Spectacular.
