It's a privilege to add another strip from the amazing Tony Marine collection to my own. Thanks, Tony!

I've been knocked out by by Frank Godwin's beautiful drawing since subscribing to Russ Cochran's Comic Art Catalog back in the '90s. Godwin's lovingly detailed rendering in the examples offered for bid struck a chord with me immediately. I was delighted by so much characterization and verisimilitude in the faces and body language of Rusty and his supporting cast.

I can't help but smile when I look at this particular daily. Notice how deftly and with what sly visual humor the artist has told us everything we really need to know about the shady character in the last frame, abetted by the ironic dialogue. Godwin was a master illustrator, working proficiently in a realistic brush style like Reed Crandall and including whimsy in the mix.

I stared at this for months before pulling the trigger. I told myself I preferred to find a Rusty without the zip-a-tone discoloration that seems to have caused so many of these originals not to have aged well. But the staining here isn't unattractive somehow, and even seems to add to its eye appeal.

Nice! Of course everyone wants a Horse in their Rusty Riley and having a mini statue is kinda cool.
