DescriptionMuch Like with Michael Golden's art, I would not consider my yearly CAF b-day party a true party with some new Pearson addition. This is the cover to the 7th Robin Annual which also contained great interior art by Jason. I find Robin is not an easy character to pull if you mean to make him look dangerous. He probably works best a fun counterpart to Batman's grim attitude. That being said, Jason did manage to draw him in a very serious badass way on this cover. He looks quite dangerous here and the many bats flying around him underline his super-hero genealogy. The father is never far away. Now this kind of perspective shot seen from below has been done numerous times but Jason does it superbly well. The depth is fantastic here and enhanced by buildings of various sizes and by the fact that Jason played with the proximity and remoteness (to the reader's eye) of the many bats. These surrounding elements creates a circle composition that showcases Robin in its centre and pulls the reader's eye into this close to hypnotic cover giving the impression that Robin is nearly upon you. Fantastic, flawless inks as always with Jason, great use of light throughout and especially on Robin's cape. Great sense of movement with the various ways the Bat's wings are flapping. A great great cover by my favourite modern artist. See below for the published cover whose colours I find do not justice to the b&w version. This is part 7 of my 2018 CAF B-Day party. Great piece and composition. Inked version is indeed way much better than colored version. Congrats!!!

Wow! Now that's a memorable Robin cover! Outstanding work by Jason Pearson! Love the suprising POV here--Looking skyward with Robin dropping down towards us, scattering bats as he plummets. Love the lush, rich blacks Peason uses here, the buildlings, the black cape and leggings, the bats...The whole cover has a fresh look to it. Stunning work. Sorry that we won't seeing more from Jason. He was a phenomenal talent.
