Description

This is one of the first pieces I picked up and I still get amped about it 14 years later. Beto is one of the greatest cartoonists of all time and he may be my favorite storyteller. I'm here because of Love + Rockets. That book changed my life. Beto's the Howard Hawks of comics. He can do it all and from what I can tell, he does do it all every-single-day. The figure movement on this one is crazy. Like Ditko in slow motion. Bob Hope's nod is pitch perfect and so is that 2nd to last panel reveal of his face! And you know Beto has to be a fan of the great, underrated Bob Oksner. Any way, this piece ran in an issue of New Love and was later collected in the hilarious soul cry, Fear of Comics.
Oh! and when I asked Beto about this page he sed something about how if you ever see someone doing the heroin dance it just goes on and on and on, forever. Which is why he drew Bob Hope. Ha ha!

Everything about this page is perfect! (The Bob Hope reveal in the penultimate panel is sublime) I love Beto's work!
