Doctor Fate 12 page 1 splash by Val Semeiks

A great splash from the late 80s Dr Fate serie by Val Semeiks.

I really loved that serie, which I only read a few years ago, for the great writing of J.M.Dematteis and later Messner Loebs and the great art of Shawn McManus and great fill in artists like Val Semeiks who was probably the better one of the bunch.

This splash features the female version of Dr Fate fighting Darkseid with tons of parademons downhill so what more could you want?

Though quite classic in style and execution, I find the scene very dynamic and it shows how good a storyteller Semeiks is. Darkseid looks particularly dangerous even though he does not have the advantage here.

And though Marc Buckingham as an inker over Semeiks would not seem the most obvious choice, I think both merge quite well in this issue.

Delighted by this great find.

Now to find a great example of McManus’work on that serie.
