A beautiful Suicide Squad page by Eddy Barrows.

I’m really not a fan of the current movie-dictated Suicide Squad title which I read here and there mostly for the art. We are so far away from the quality of the Ostrander days. DC should wise up and offer the book to someone like Gail Simone who basically wrote her own SS title in Secret Six. But I digress.

But when Eddy Barrows whose art I have loved for a long long time (years before Batman actually) drew a meager back up in SS, I was interested and on the prowl when the art was offered for sale.

This one immediately caught my eye. For the splashy part (bad pun unintended) but also the technique itself. It really pop ups in b&w with its combination of pencil, ink and copic marker to render the swamp. Look at those trees and the foggy effects on Croc.

Eddy told me that the copics were always done by him and the inks by Ferreira.

I think Eddy draw an exceptional Killer Croc (even better than Jim Lee imho) and this is a perfect example. The monstrous silhouette and the haunting mood of the swamp’s atmosphere are incredible here and reminds me of Wrightson’s art. This was actually my main drive in purchasing this page. It really evokes Wrightson to me.
