Whoa!  Of course [gently smacks forehead]  Obvious when you think of it.  First appearance of Death!  Check.  Amazing splash (and first full splash!) of Thanos!  Check!  As well as very early Starlin and the beginnings of that great cosmic saga.  Wow--Congratulations on the pick-up!

The villians are what make the stories great - Thanos is a great one!

Here ia a great example of capital price appreciation in original comic art collecting.  There are few other places in our asset ownership society where the return can be so rewarding financially.  Mr. Loshiavo purchased this page off eBay in October 2001 just after the 11 September attacks for USD$1,800.  I queried him over the years unsuccessfully trying to acquire this page.  So, 17 years later, he puts it on consignment with CL to achieve a hammer price of USD$47,000.  Subtracting out the commission paid to CL, the page sells for USD$42,300 for a return, by my calculations, of 2,350%.  Breaking it down even more, it becomes a 138% annual return.  I respectfully request that Mr. Fish not delete this post.  I wanted to use this opportunity to show the financial benefits of comic art collecting above and beyond the emotional and sentimental attachment that owning comic art brings.

By no means am I diminishing Mr. Fish's excellent acquisition to his already impressive collection.  Comic art collecting is both highly sentimental and emotionally rewarding for remembering the stories that made/make a difference in our lives.  Congratulations with another impressive piece!  First appearances are always memorable.

Phil, gotta check your math on this one.  Gross return = (42300/1800)-1 = 2,250% (don't forget to subtract the "1", otherwise you'll add an extra 100% on whatever return you calculate).  Annualized return over 16.5 years  = [(42300/1800)^(1/16.5)]-1 = 21.09% annualized (still very impressive, though, coming off such a low base, one should be very wary of assuming that past performance will be a harbinger of future returns).

At a 138% annualized return over 16.5 years, $1800 would have become a whopping $2.943 BILLION, such is the power of compound interest at high rates of return.

Wow you landed this epic page! CONGRATS!!! I was wondering who won it. Given the massive financial success of the Marvel movies this is an incredible investment. It should be in a museum somewhere!!
