Description

Really happy to pick up this black and white sketch and the companion color version. This is a drawing and not a print. A closer examination reveals pencil marks as well as white-out below the earrings, which I've seen on other drawings by Caniff. The paper stock matches the three nudes from the other drawing as well. I asked the seller what the story behind them was. Here's a message for the original owner: "Generally a tour in Vietnam for Marines was thirteen months. Some one came up with the idea of a 'short timer's calendar' when there was a month left on a tour. I don't know if this actually originated in Vietnam or from earlier military tours. Any way, knowing Caniff to be a supporter of the US Military, I wrote to him and asked if he could pen a 'short timer's calendar' for my Marines. He responded with the drawing. "
