Description

The paper for this sketch is much thinner than the black and white version. It may have been traced from the black and white drawing and then colored. It's fascinating to compare Caniff's composition to the 1950 chalk-talk drawing in my collection. Similar but different.

UPDATE: The eBay dealer I won the Vietnam-era pinup from found a note from Caniff to the original owner and sent it along. This helps explain the color version of the pinup. It's a color guide to the original ink drawing. I've added the note as an additional image.

Thanks Jeff. Both versions of the drawing fit nicely in my collection, which is certainly becoming more Caniff-eclectic. If you weren't the underbidder, maybe I would've gotten it cheaper. ;) Best.
