Blood by Moonlight

This is one of a two-piece commission focusing on the female leads of horror video games. Admittedly it took a while for me to figure out a composition for this sketch and it tested my limits. Basically it's Lisa Rogan, Zoey, and Julie Kidman moonbathing on a dark beach with evil creeping around the corners. Is it fearlessness, a trap they've hatched to draw the dead out of hiding, or is it just rotten luck? Either way it's a starless night, full moon, a blood-filled wave rolling in, and a zombie hand is bursting from the sands while a skull's sockets are lit. Rendered on 9 x 12" Bienfang with mixed media, I'm deeply proud of the final rendering the background as much as the main characters. I've never colored characters in a dark setting like this before. While some may comment that the figures shouldn't be that visible and that stronger shadows should've been employed, who's to say something isn't there beyond the viewer's eye? Either way, I've thoroughly enjoyed working on this sketch.
