Alison Snowden and David Fine were on a tour thanks to the
The National Film Board of Canada. Our
ASIFA San Francisco chapter played host at San Francisco State University. We enjoyed a fine
program, then Alison and David conducted a question-and-answer session. They met as students at Britain’s National Film & Television School. Alison's student film
Second Class Mail (1984) was nominated for an Oscar. Their NFB film
George and Rosemary (1987) was Oscar-nominated. Living and working in London, they won an Oscar for
Bob's Birthday (1994). The short led to the television series
Bob and Margaret which ran on Comedy Central in the US. Their latest work is
Animal Behavior created in their current home Vancouver, British Columbia. I saw Pia Guerra's name in the credits and asked about her contribution. Alison explained they were friends with Ian Boothby and Pia. When they needed help with the therapist's office, Pia created a computer model for them. (I recently read Pia's
Me the People and she writes of watching the US election coverage at a party put on by friends Alison and David.) At the completion of the program, the audience got a chance to meet one on one and I asked each for a sketch. Alison drew Margaret first, then David drew Bob on the right. I used the series title in the title although it is Margaret and Bob from left to right.
