X-O Manowar 37 cover By Rafa Sandoval & Jordi Tarragona

A great X-O Manowar cover by the fantastic team of Rafa Sandoval and Jordi Tarragona.

It was done as an incentive to commemorate Valiant 25th birthday. Rafa drew several similar covers using the triangular background motif.

Let’s be frank, this one was a it-is-so-cheap-I-can’t-really-let-it-pass-me purchase. From an artist whose work I love.

I have been really enjoying the recent X-O series at Valiant. First the Robert Venditti run and the current Matt Kindt one. These are great cosmic series. Rafa did a splendid job on it every time he contributed and it has probably played a great part in getting him the GL assignment at DC. I also have always enjoyed the character since his early days at Valiant as I find the original concept quite strong to begin with.

The cover offers a great design. I love the perspective-deformed fist. And Tarragona’s inks perfectly complement Rafa’s art as always. Those solid blacks particularly give a cosmic sense to the piece.
