Description

I set this up from Robin because they actually know who Brave Bow is, so I felt more relaxed commissioning an artist familiar with the character than having to launch a lot of explanations.

Brave Bow (A.K.A. Raymond Begay) was Roy Harper's first foster dad growing up in Arizona. By all accounts he was the best dad Roy's had, since his birth father died when he was 3 and Green Arrow is...

Anyway, in the Earth-27 continuity, Brave Bow was the Green Arrow figure instead of Oliver Queen (who in 27B is an analog of Donald Trump). He didn't set out to be a superhero but was an outspoken political activist and protester who's gone up against Oliver Queen numerous times. When one protest turned violent due to the police, B.B. stepped up and used his archery skills to try and lend a hand. The media got a hold of him and portrayed him as a hero, thinking Brave Bow is his super name. Eventually, Oliver Queen started hiring supervillains to try and get rid of B.B., including the British mercenary called the Witch of Pappelwick. B.B. was later invited to join the Secret Seven, accepting the invitation thinking maybe they could afford more protection for him and Roy. And that maybe he could keep them grounded to focus on less fantastical issues.

As a father, B.B. did his best not to neglect Roy in favor of campaigning and protesting and it shows. He raised Roy to understand that real men aren't afraid of being emotional and that it's perfectly healthy for someone to get upset and cry regardless of gender. His concern was to make sure Roy didn't fall into the traps of toxic white masculinity and taught him a lot about feminism.

His appearance here indicates he was slightly older before he died, and he's a rather muscular man. However, he's lost some weight after receiving a cancer diagnosis.
