Description
Pivotal scene from Jim Lee's Divine Right series.

Won this in a ComicLink auction but didn't realize Carlos D'Anda's name was crossed out and Jim Lee's name is written until after I had it in my hands. The credits for the issue say that Jim did the layouts and Carlos did the penciling so I'm not sure what happened there but it's a nice looking page regardless.

An update received on 6/10/2022 from Scott Williams (inker):
"Jim did the layouts and Carlos did the finished pencils. How loose or how tight the layouts that Jim did varied from page to page. There were many pages where I only saw the page after Carlos did the finished pencils, and never saw what degree of tightness Jim provided Carlos. This page definitely has both Jim and Carlos touch, despite Carlos's name being scratched off at the top."

Received this update from a fellow CAF member:
"Most of the nice pencils in your page are Jim Lee's work. Right, he was credited only as layout artist on that issue BUT in Divine Right #12, we can clearly see that the 3 splash pieces of the book (one being a double page spread) and a few more pages like yours, had tight and almost finished pencils by Jim Lee, so Carlos only had to add a few pencil lines on those ''almost full Lee pencils'' pages. Your page is one of the pieces on that last Divine Right issue that Lee wanted to pencil and work deeper with. Lee was very busy with Wildstorm and penciled many Divine Right pages on a small size but it was time for his last Divine Right story and worked much more on the pencils of the splash pages and a few other battle pages like yours than he did on the rest of the pages, where he just penciled more lightly in the credited layout style, and then, extra pencils by Carlos clearly changed the final look. Many other pages show hair lines, rocky texture backgrounds and folds that were clearly added or touched by Carlos, but there are a few pages that look very very close to the well-known Lee pencils, having Carlos for just a few extra pencil touches."
