Description

Picked this up this weekend at San Diego Comic Fest. I've always liked the panel pictured below, from Issue 34 pg 6 of New Mutants that Steve did. I asked if he could blow it up splash size, and he graciously accepted. Featuring Sunspot, Magma, Wolfsbane, Karma, Storm, Cannonball, Cypher, and Mirage.

I've included a small prelim of head sketches he did looking through the issue.

I couldn't be happier with the job Steve did on this. If you ever get a chance to run into him at a con, he's one of the nicest artists I've gotten to talk to.

A beautiful piece, from an artist whose work on New Mutants is perhaps overshadowed (more than slightly unfairly) by coming in and around the time Bill Sienkiewicz was turning the artistic conventions upside down with his own superlative work.

Steve Leialoha is one of my white whales. I've never been able to be in the same place at the same time as him. This piece is almost exactly what I would have asked him for, too. It's a wonderful piece. Ug!!! The jealousy!!!

(BTW If anyone happens across this comment and knows how to contact him about a commission, don't hesitate to let me know!)
