Description

Black Magick, the first creator-owned collaboration between Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott, was years in the making. It was definitely worth the wait! Scott's decision to paint and to have the story be (mostly) black and white sets the perfect mood for this supernatural crime procedural. Each page shows exquisite detail and must be incredibly time consuming.

I like this page as a representation of the series. Rowan cleans her service revolver, and you can see that the house and the cat are characters in their own right. (Actually, her familiar Hawthorne may be my favorite character in the book!) Once again, Scott uses the back of the board for composition, roughs, working out faces, etc. She then reverses the board on a lightbox, allowing her to achieve the clean, tight art of the finished page. I'm including a picture of the back of this page for reference.
