Back in 1990 I was managing a Waldenbooks & a decision was taken for the chain to quit carrying graphic novels. I thought this was a terrible idea & wrote a letter explaining why to the person in charge of that division. The decision was changed, probably no thanks to me. In the letter I particularly singled out Will Eisner & Mark Schultz as creators whose work we should support.

A couple of months later, a package showed up for me at the store. Inside was #10 of 1750 of the Spirit Casebook with this sketch inside. It was a complete surprise & one of my best collecting moments.
