Eily is the protagonist of Above the Clouds which you can read online at the link.

Above the Clouds tells Eily's story. As Melissa writes on the About page of her website, "Above the Clouds follows a young girl, named Eily, who has been given a book about a hero who most go on a quest to save a great tree from darkness. Only, the story isn't finished and Eily must go on her own adventure to get an author, who doesn't believe himself, to finish the book."

The book has a very interesting structure and premise. The book is half silent - there are no spoken words in Eily's world; that story is told in pictures only. However, in the book she is reading and wants completed, there is written dialog. The challenge is to convince the creator to finish the story, but he's lost confidence in his ability to do so.

Melissa decided to run a Kickstarter to get her work into print and someone that I know pledged. If you've used Kickstarter when a friend pledges, you get a note about it. I got the note and liked the artwork so I pledged at a level to get a remarque/"inked sketch" in the book.

Melissa completed the book long before the Kickstarter, but there's always something ready to go wrong and things did so the book was a little late. That's no big deal if you are a Kickstarter veteran; so long as the creators keep in touch, delays are okay. Melissa didn't see it that way. She upgraded everyone in my tier to a standalone drawing. Given that she had 70+ of those, that's a lot of really beautiful pen & ink / watercolors.

The CAF link shows all/most of those drawings, but I couldn't find mine in that picture. :)

In summary, I was attracted by the drawings, but stayed for the story.
