Description

I spent a big chunk of my youthful summers in the UK and read a lot of war digest comics - like war picture library so pretty cool to be able to pick up painted covers from these comics.

I, like many, have always found the Spitfire to be an especially beautiful piece of machinery so was looking for covers that feature this fighter plane so this one fit my criteria - and I like the bold color choice.

Biffignandi did a lot of painted covers for digest comics - actually known for sex and horror as well as war covers per Wikipedia.

This cover was published first in 1963 in Air Ace Picture Library 134 then in Battle Picture Library 1428 and finally War Picture Library 1019 - Story titles "Winner Takes All"

Picked this and the Air Ace 139 up as a pair - would love more!

Wow! Very cool air combat cover! Love the composition here with the German bomber going down in flames and the British Spitfire coming in from above. Beautifully painted by Alessandro Biffignandi. I really like that splash of red at the top that contrasts so vividly with the khaki-colored planes. Unusual pick-up!

The cover is tremendous! I agree the Spitfire is a lovely kite. The German aircraft might be a Messerschmitt Bf 110 based on a quick internet seach. Congratulations!
