Bizarre Adventures #25 (1981) Page 18 : Misty Knight vs vampire

From the "Safe Streets" story by Chris Claremont. The captions are on a vellum overlay which is somewhat frayed and has a vertical rent in the middle. The published page was black and white, so the different colors in the original art were not so evident. McLeod used a mix of black ink, wash, and airbrush.

This story is a sequel to Claremont's story "Angie's Soul" from Vampire Tales #6 (1974), in which a cop named Angie discovers NYC citizens harboring a vampire who keeps their streets clean of drug pushers but occasionally claims an innocent victim as the price of tranquility. Angie becomes the victim and is turned into a vampire.

In "Safe Streets," Angie returns as a friend of Misty Knight. The story replays with Angie in the vampire role, attacking Misty in the back of a taxicab in the pictured scene. Misty and Colleen Wing eventually kill Angie, enraging the citizens whose neighborhood was being kept "safe." It makes me think of the difficult relationship New York City has had with the Mafia, though Claremont told me he was not thinking particularly of that.
