"The Tortoise And The Hare" originally appeared in the Oct. 1934 issue of "Good Housekeeping." Walt Disney, in arrangement w/"Good Housekeeping," produced the one-page adaptations from 1934-1944 to promote their animated shorts. This is detailed in the book "Walt Disney's Mickey And The Gang - Classic Stories In Verse" by Gemstone Publishing, appearing as one of the two-page fold outs (pages 96-97). Offered here is the beautiful, fully-painted original art for Disney's seventh "Good Housekeeping" page, "Walt Disney - Silly Symphony - The Tortoise And The Hare." Art was painted by Tom Wood and is done in five panels and features Toby Tortoise and Max Hare lined up at starting line of race w/crowd in bkg.; Max racing off and leaving Toby in his dust; Max getting distracted by "Miss Cottontail's Boarding School" bunnies; group of snails outpacing Toby; Toby just beating Max to the finish line, proving slow and steady wins the race. Art comes in attractive gold wood frame w/UV Plexiglas cover, overall size is 27.5x33-7/8" as professionally matted and framed. "1934" etched brass plate at bottom center. Amazing detail and color, art has some aging to first panel as well as masthead area, but o/w displays VF/Exc. as framed and is ready for display. One of the most sought-after of these magnificent pieces. Unique and historic Disney art.
