Description

Attilio Mussino, Pinocchio. Tempera su cartone, cm 31x24.

Attilio Mussino was born in Torino in 1878 and dies in Cuneo in 1954.
He graduates at the “Accademia Albertina” in Torino, among his teachers there are names such as Andrea Tavernier, Giacomo Grosso e Celestino Gilardi.
When he’s still just a student he collabs with some satirical journals such as "La Luna", "Il fischietto" e il "Pasquino". From 1902 he collabs regularly with the "Domenica dei Fanciulli".
In 1908 he meets the editor Enrico Bemporad who comes up with the idea to create a new edition of “Avventure di Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi. He works on that for almost three years and then presents his project to the Esposizione Internazionale di Torino in 1911 where obtains the Diploma d'Onore and the Medaglia d'oro.
In 1908 once the "Corriere dei piccoli" is created, Mussino becomes a collaborator and starts also creating a new famous character: Bilbolbul.
In the middle of the 40’s Mussino’s only child Giorgio dies at the front followed by his wife. Then Mussino moves to Vernante, a village in Valle Vermenagna which is Cuneo’s county. There he keeps working until his death in 1954, July 16th.
Vernante so became "zio di Pinocchio"’s village. That’s how everyone called Attilio.
Today his murales, the illustrations from the book Avventure di Pinocchio can be witnessed as they were realized on houses’ walls of the whole village .
