Description
Gray Morrow is a criminally underrated artist!

His mastery of a myriad of graphic techniques is just dazzling and there are countless stories out there that have benefited from his art to the point of transcendence... But he was also a really impressive painter and his signature on a Science-Fiction book cover was sure to attract buyers at the shelf.

Except, except...

When you look at the cover of this 3rd installment of the Perry Rhodan series by the name of Galactic Alarm, it's true to say that the art is rather underplayed...

But, nothing at all could have prepared me for the visual shock of opening the package and discover the stunning original artwork, a really really big painting where the blue alien tower and the 2 green space crafts are set again a spectacular background of fiery nebula outbursts that seem to tear up the ground in dark molten tar projections! Too bad most of it was trimmed out on the published version... Well, see for yourself, you'll tell me...

I already had some fine Gray Morrow pieces that I dearly love and I had thought I would be content with it. But then this one came along that I knew I couldn't pass. And even then, the scans couldn't do it justice! And so it arrived home, and...

I'm overwhelmed, seriously!

Being a science-fiction enthusiast I can't help but appreciate this spectacular painting! I think the artist knew well that just the central part of the image would've been pictured on the cover (hence the signature place), so he clearly painted that impressive background for his own amusement. And it shows! :)

Thanks Davide! Judging from other covers, it looks like Gray Morrow was indeed leaving his signature close to the center of the piece, so I'd say you're right!

Wonderful piece by Morrow. This is probably one of the best ones he did for the Perry Rhodhan series!

Thanks Miki! I agree, of course: with none of the usual characters depicted here, Gray Morrow was totally free to experiment and he came up with this fiery, almost abstract, landscape.
