DescriptionWallace Wood: Lunar Tunes Story Page 22 (Original Art and Production Photostat, 1981). A late-in-life composition by Wood, "Lunar Tunes" started in his Witzend magazine, featuring the baby-like character Pipsqueak. Finally collected inThe Complete Lunar Tunes, published by Vanguard Productions in 2005. Ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 16.5". Moderate toning and spot-staining, with image correction paste-ups throughout. An accompanying hand-lettered photostat of the completed page is affixed to Bristol board with an image size of 10.25" x 13.25". "Never draw anything you can copy, never copy anything you can trace, and never trace anything you can cut out and paste in." I'm afraid that kinda sums up the general level of ambition here. There's not really any story to speak of, and many of the pages towards the end are just paste-ups with a minimum of new artwork. Mare Imbrium (Latin imbrium, the "Sea of Showers" or "Sea of Rains") is a vast lava plain within the Imbrium Basin on the Moon and is one of the larger craters in the Solar System. Obviously Bill Pearson misread Wood's pencil notes and came up with a wrong name (Marc Imbruum). Provenance: Heritage Auctions June 22, 2020 Social/Sharing |

Inspiring to see Woody still trying not long before his death. Kind of reminds me of Mark E. Smith of The Fall taking the stage in November 2017 in a wheelchair for his final live show. The spacy backgrounds are pretty cool here. Nice pick-up Lars!
