Pair of artboards (6-3/8x13.5" and 6x15") have pen and ink original art for unpublished late 1940s "Flash Comics" comic story that was apparently slated for "Flash Comics" #106 prior to the series' cancellation with issue #104 in 1949. Both partial pages are from same story featuring medieval King Arthur attacking modern gunmen in castle ruins. Illustrated by Carmine Infantino (1925-2013), whose Golden Age work preceded the work he is best known for, helping establish the Silver Age of DC Comics. Both artboards feature two panels apiece, smaller of which shows King Arthur and his troops advancing on castle ruins. First panel shows shadowed profile of The Flash, complete w/his iconic Mercury helmet. Second panel features a superspeed blur rushing towards ruins as The Flash makes his advance. Larger artboard shows Flash overseeing King Arthur as he advances on gunmen and then rushing to save him as he trips and becomes a target. First panel shows Flash as a blurred pillar while second panel shows him as a blurred outline, his Mercury helmet clearly visible. Smaller artboard has even moderate aging and three approx. 1" vertical slices to first panel (on Flash's face/helmet) which blend somewhat. Top right margin has 5.25" streak of faint moisture staining that only infringes into text balloon. VG overall, but could be matted for nice display. Larger artboard has some lt. margin handling/dust soiling at left/right but art remains clean and displays Exc. It appears likely that both are among the partial-page Golden Age original art that were saved from oblivion by fellow DC interns during the 1970s. Dan Makara Collection.
