Description
Detective Comics #997 (March 2019) original variant cover art for "Mythology: Waiting for a Miracle". Brian Stelfreeze had a fabulous run on various Batman titles in the 90's / early 2000's before taking a hiatus from DC altogether, and he is currently known as one of the top artists for Black Panther. He was approached in 2018 by DC about doing a couple of variant covers for Detective Comics, 996 and 997, and agreed to do so. 996 was done digitally, so this issue was the only one that he did with physical media. The result is an amazing painting featuring Batman in the foreground with a menacing Joker in the background amidst the cityscape. I don't have the art with me at the moment (it is getting framed) so don't have the exact dimensions, but it is a bit smaller than the standard 11" X 17". It is done on heavy art paper with acrylics and has been signed by Brian. As usual, Brian's use of contrast is stellar, and when I showed it to Neal Adams after I purchased directly from Brian at Heroes Con in 2019, Neal commented on how amazing it was and how it left you wondering what was really going on behind the scenes in the image. Pretty cool stuff!

First to comment?!  Travesty!  Love how the center yellows and orange break up the blues of the buildings on the side.  Stelfreeze is known as an artists' artist and pieces like this are why.  Congrats!
