Description

The magic totem Supergirl from Superman issue 123 (1958) was a prototype one-shot character who preceded the "real" Supergirl by almost a year, testing the waters for a permanent Supergirl, and got so much positive reader response that the editors created the Kryptonian Supergirl we're all familiar with.

Although the magic totem Supergirl wore the traditional red, yellow and blue costume in her origin story when first published in Superman 123 (1958), later reprints of the story changed her hair color and costume colors to avoid confusion with the "real" Supergirl, and the red hair and orange and green costume are the colors most associated with the magic totem Supergirl. (Strange that Jimmy's dream girl ended up looking like Jimmy...)
