Beauty.
Absolutely exquisite. This book was FILLED with breathtaking art, and this page is my favorite from it. As solid as the colors were, the black and white here - with the tones of the brickwork, the lighting and shading on the costumes, and the beautiful "open sky" behind The Shadow, highlighting him so effectively - is truly show-stopping. It must be such a wonder and joy to see in person. Seriously, I think of this black and white page all the time. It is one of Matt Wagner's high-water marks, in my opinion (in a career fairly littered with high-water marks). Most sincere congratulations - this is epic.
This is just a ridiculously amazing page! The Shadow has the upper ground, Grendel is poised to strike, it's just so dynamic, tense, and amazing. Congrats on getting this wonderful work of art by the great Matt Wagner.
