DescriptionAstonishing breathed a new life in X-men titles. Cyke truly started to emerge as the leader and began his journey to the rebellious version I love him for. One of the highlights of this run was the relationship between Emma and Cyke. Glad to have this in my collectionSocial/Sharing |

Gorgeous example. This was an incredible creative team for many reasons, not the least of which was the fact that John Cassaday invested the visual representation of the characters with as much nuance, life, truth, and individuality as Joss Whedon did in their written portrayal. The action scenes all were imbued with character (thanks to Joss), and the characters were ALWAYS in action, either subtly or "grandly" (thanks to John) - and you've got a great example of one such character moment here! What a gift for us all to have 24 issues of story and art (plus a Giant Sized!) from them. Great page - congrats!

Thats such an insightful comment. You are absolutely right. Astonishing felt some new, something electric, something beautiful.. for all the reasons you stated. Thanks for sharing your insights here.

Astonishing was the last great run on the XM franchiese before the HoX / PoX reboot. Great example. Cassaday draws a great Emma (his and Quitely's are the definitive versione, IMHO)

100% Agree.. Though I'll admit , I enjoyed the comics that came after.. till AvX.. where they kind of lost me a bit.. I did continue to enjoy the revelutionary phase for Cycke.. Nothng that came after astonisghing rose to the same heights, but it was def entertaining, and for cylops imo watershed run. And totally agree on Emma.. One day I hope to have a quitely emma in my collection. fingers crossed.

I really liked how Cassaday handled this relationship during his amazing run. It was a real relationship, and shows the doubts many leaders have in those private moments. Great page. Congrats!
