Description
Rule 1 of every commission: never underestimate the job. Well, I did, admittedly. This is the first ever city I've rendered at length, let alone without black lines. That was a choice I made because I wanted to establish distance in this final image in the Doctor Who commission. Utilizing just copic markers and prismacolor hard lead pencils, I did my best to etch The Doctor's home planet of Gallifrey and the Time Lords' Citadel. I also used soft lead white to convey the shine of the globe overtop of the city and a line of liquid white to establish the surface. Yellow-red tones were implemented to convey that orange sky. The only complaint and regret I have is failing to establish the correct color for the snow on top of the mountains in the distance. A last-minute request from the client was to throw in the TARDIS. Translating the big blue box with BG93 and 96, in the end, wasn't cutting it, so I threw caution to the wind and layered BG09 on top of the shades. At best this felt like painting rather than sketching and coloring. With Murray Gold's "Shepherd's Boy" piece from the episode "Heaven Sent" I labored like hell for a week to close out this month-long labor of love and I'm truly satisfied with the end product.
