Description
I've always loved Ryoichi Ikegami's art since I read Crying Freeman from Viz. He has a distinctive style. Manga art is hard to come by, so I'm glad to get a page from this book, even though it has not been translated into English.

I have been told that Ryoichi Ikegami does not sell his originals, and whatever is out there are actually by his assistants in his studio. This page probably falls into that category. It is made from his own personal stock (you can see his Japanese name as part of the blueline of the page, it is barely visible in the scan) Oh well, I'm still glad I got a published page that is credited to Ryoichi Ikegami where you can see his distinctive style!

Saw you mention this on comicart-l and I agree, Ikegami is underappreciated especially in the US... I would love to have a Crying Freeman page or even better a Sanctuary page!

Impressive! The detail of the fortress is wonderful.

I could only dream of owning a Ryoichi Ikegami or something from his studio. I should have asked him for a sketch when I saw him at Comic-Con International back in 1996. He was a guest at the Viz booth.

Hi Malvin, I'm glad you still have this one. When I set up my new studio, I will post my Heat cover from Ikigami. Still sad I had to let this one go. :(

I love seeing this! Ikegami is a genius and any page from one of his books is a real treasure.
