Description

Thirty years after he first designed Madame Xanadu for DC's Doorway to Nightmare, Michael Kaluta returned to the character in 2009, producing both covers and gorgeous interior art for a five issue arc of Matt Wagner's excellent Vertigo series. The story, which earned Kaluta a much deserved Eisner Award nomination for best penciler/inker, delved more deeply into the origins of the character and how seemingly remote events from the past can come back to haunt us.

This beautifully constructed page comes from the fourth issue of the arc and sees Xanadu engaged in a bit of breaking and entering.

Wow - as you say, that is astonishingly beautiful. Three main tiers, with the inset rows between each forming a graphic barrier between them while all contributing to the overall design and flow of the page. And then you have KALUTA art on top of it! :) Beautful pick up. That is an amazing page.
