Sold this years ago but never knew what it was for! Nice to fianlly find out! I think it came from the Balcourt lot

was it through leo by any chance that you sold it? it looked like this was slated for a paperback based on the info on the back but then never used for that. it was then later repurposed for mike shayne. i had asked ed balcourt about it and he said that was common. it doesn't make much sense as a mike shayne cover and the art was older than that era of issue it was used on.

We may well find it some day on a paperback or in a True Crime or similar magazine. I saw covers that were used and reused several times sometimes with repaints - Mike Shayne had a number of them - they must have paid very little for cover art.. Leo was proabbly a long time after I sold it - I probably had it in the early 1980s.

ok, then leo could have sold it for the person you sold it to. i have had it for almost twenty years myself.
mike shayne did reuse a lot of these covers for sure. there's a great feature about balcourt in an earlier issue of illustration magazine that i recently dug out to reread. i wish he were still around to answer more of my questions...
