Description

Image is approximately 17.5x12 in. Blueline pencil, graphite pencil, pen & ink, and a whole lot of zipatone. Paste-up pattern on left side of cover. Production overlays for title and cover blurb in Inuktitut and English with some white-out.

As seen in "Holy Sh*t!: The World's Weirdest Comic Books" by Paul Gravett & Peter Stanbury.

Despite it's apparent weirdness to people in foreign lands, "Super Shamou" was already very popular in the Arctic from the IBC TV show, so the comic was popular too. It was reprinted very quickly, and was translated into French for Northern Quebec (Nunavik) too.

Shortly after the "Super Shamou comic" came out, the Northern Medical Unit of the University of Manitoba did a health heeds assessment for the Keewatin Region of what is now Nunavut. The final report stated that some young people said they weren't going to sniff solvents because "Super Shamou" had taught them not to! So the comic did its job: it effectively discouraged some kids from damaging their own health.
