DC Women by Jason Pearson

Ok, here it is. For everyone who follows my gallery, you know that I try to upload a new Pearson (and his artistic daddy, Michael Golden) at the very least once a year for my birthday.

This is a top quality commission that I bought second hand (i.e. I’m not the original commissioner).

What’s not to love here? 5 big DC women next to each other seemingly having fun.

What I love is that while they all look confident, Jason infused each with some distinct personal traits and personality on top of the obvious different costumes (as any good artist should). Would that be the faces, their air, the largeness of the breasts or the width of their hips or simply their body built. Each possesses their own traits.

Catwoman seems to be the one enjoying herself the most. You can also tell she is smaller than any of the other 4, a fit built for a thief.

Zatanna is a close second and I love the magic wand lifted towards the sky while her other hand is pointing towards the “reader”. A nice devise to create depth within the illustration and “ground” it.

Both Power Girl and Wonder Woman seem the most confident. Strong women not to be messed with. Powerhouses. I love that Diana’s legs are more muscular than any of the other. A warrior always training not resting on the laurels of her powers. And her lasso radiating stars is a nice, fun touch.

Black Canary is the one who seemingly is not that happy to be there.

I will let you be the judge but I find that while super sexy, the illustration is not vulgar (no came toe or exposed breast here). Still the bad guys on the ground must be quite happy ^^.

Now about the composition. It’s just mind blowing because you can turn it around on whichever side of the rectangle board you choose, it works perfectly (see the other images below for that). Not an easy thing to pull off. The camera angle is super original and is a welcome change from the usual triangle compositions (a la Mignola) or the movie poster montages we see every months on the comics racks. The shadowed buildings again add some depth to the illustration while not distracting from the main 5 figures.

Also note how Power Girl and WW are “ying yanging” each other's position within the illustration? I love symmetry within an illustration and find this bit to be simply brilliant.

Lastly, I must not be the one to find this composition to be vastly successful, as I have seen at least two swipes of this image by established professionals in the industry ^^

Let’s not forget to mention the pure pristine inks (as always) which you may not be able to appreciate fully due to the lesser quality of the pic (sorry for that).
