Description
Pirates! Mead Schaeffer was one of the top book illustrators of the Golden Age, painting illustrations for Moby Dick, the Count of Monte Cristo, and Les Miserables in the 1920s and 1930s. This illustration is one of eight from one of his best known illustrated novels, the Black Buccaneer by Stephen Meader. Schaeffer was taught by Harvey Dunn and Dean Cornwall making him part of the illustrious Brandywine School of illustrators. Great to add another one of the greats to the collection.

Wonderful - always nice to see another of your additions. I feel a mini-museum is being created in your home!
