Description
I've never watched Danny Phantom, but I've been aware of the animated series. When I got the order featuring villain Ember McClain and Danny's love interest Sam Monson onstage, it occurred to me that I'd never drawn either them or a rock concert atmosphere. Simplicity assisted in playing a role in a speedy completion. I envisioned an underground night club environment with some inspiration from an Evanescence concert. This would have to be a contradiction between Goth and hard rock given the character's diverse color palettes. With photo reference from cosplay and other sources, I came up with the idea of a pink, smokey stage to capture that supernatural feel, achieved through reddish-violet copic tones. The major effect, however, was Eden herself and her guitar's hypnotic blast. Less solid lines and more tones were needed for the effects to convey the feeling of that energy in motion going off camera. I also applied liquid gel around the hearts to get that white glow all ghost characters are known for. But for Eden herself I stuck with soft white Prismacolor. I also enhanced the minimal shadows on her face and body with warm greys. The tongue I borrowed from a photo of Hailey Stanfield. As for Sam, Amy Lee was her reference photo pose, but the attire was all me. I envisioned reddish lights since we had a lot of that onstage, so I reasoned the black shirt and plaid skirt would appear bluish-violet. I had to put the Danny Phantom logo somewhere, so why couldn't it be the logo for their band? I also put a light BV000 over the white so that it would blend in with the background. There are other details I could have put in, but I decided to play it safe and the satisfied with what I had on the page. I wouldn't mind going back into the world of Danny Phantom in future projects. Perhaps even looking up a few episodes. In any case, this commission rocked in every sense of the word. 11 X 14" Canson with mixed media.
