Description
Czarface & MF DOOM "Super What?" album cover
Artwork by LAmour Supreme (2021)

UPDATE - 9/12/2021 - This album just went to a new, black and white print with white vinyl for the September 2021 Record Store Day.

This is a big one for me as a huge lover of comics and music. This is the original artwork created by LAmour Supreme for the first music release from MF DOOM after his death, which was a record he was working on with Esoteric and 7L from Czarface! The album also features Run-DMC's DMC, Del the Funky Homosapien, Kendra Morris, and That Handsome Devil's Godforbid. As an added bonus the artwork is a homage to Mazzucchelli's Daredevil #216 cover artwork.

This artwork was used for the main album cover, CD cover, Cassette cover, t-shirts and countless articles and promo. This one is also HUGE at around 20 by 24 inches. The group pressed several vinyl variants with blue swirl, yellow swirl, standard black, and a yellow Newbury Comics shop variant.

Killer promo video for the album:

This was the message Esoteric from Czarface the day the album dropped:
"Czarface & MF DOOM: "Super What?" was recorded and slated to drop in April of 2020. When COVID-19 struck and the world stopped, we chose to pull it, focus on family, and fine tune a few elements on it. What you'll be hearing was finalized, mixed & mastered in the summer of 2020, and it's our honor and privilege to share it with you Friday. I speak for everyone involved when I say we were incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with DOOM...he was a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-duplicated emcee, producer, and visionary. We wish peace and healing to his family, friends and everyone touched by the gifts he shared with the planet. MF DOOM FOREVER."

Thanks so much my friend. Czarface and DOOM have done some memorable homages over the years. I especially love the tyopgraphy and spin LAmour gave this one.

This is absolutely incredible. Earlier this year when we lost MF it was quite amazing to see all the artistic tributes that followed. Music + art = life

Well said! It's inspiring when people/art can inspire more people/art.

I honestly haven't paid much attention to rap/hip hop over the last 30 years. I loved it throughout the 80's and into the very early 90's, but when it basically became all about "bitches and hoes" and "getting rich" (or die tryin'?), I tuned out. In fact, over the last several years, the very first time I've heard certain rappers' names is when I read a headline about them getting shot and killed in Florida.

So I've never even heard of Czarface or MF DOOM, but back in July I was walking along when I chanced upon a combination "bicycle repair shop/record store" (first and only one on earth?) and the first thing I saw on the wall in front of me when I walked in was this very album, which brought a smile to my face and I looked over at my friend and said, "Check it out, the DD #216 cover by Mazzucchelli.". Very cool to see it then, and how very cool to see you acquire the original art for it, George!

These guys definitely have more of the old school feel and really caught me with the comic book tie-ins. I appreciate your story and love that there is a bicycle repair shop that sells (great) records!

That's great, George, and must be super RAD in person for you, knowing how big it is!  Worthy image for MF DOOM's last album.  RIP.  And I think design-wise DD 216 was straight up one of the best laid out covers ever - one of those ones that's stuck with me over the years.  Worthy image to homage for this occasion!  Big congrats, man!

Great piece of art and music history. I always loved KMD, when Doom used to rap under the name Zev Love X with his brother Subroc who also tragically passed.
