Description
One of the most beautiful and technically brilliant OA pages I've ever owned...

Kabuki tells the story of Ukiko, an assassin struggling with her identity in near-future Japan. Creator/artist David Mack blends visual elements with written words (both English and Japanese) to create stunning mixed-media collages. This splash of Ukiko is especially intriguing and breath-taking with Mack using Japanese newsprint, lace, ribbon, silk fabric and rich gold paint that would make Gustav Klimt proud! Even the thread stitching is part of Mack’s integrated design. Look carefully and you’ll see Ukiko's kimono blends harmoniously with a mountain landscape beneath a dramatic full moon.

Story and art by David Mack. Published by Image Comics, 2006.

Wow! I love David Mack amd even more when his art evolved into these colorful covers and interiors that only SEEM abstract until one truly studies each image. These were the books that made me fall in love with Mack's brilliance. Congrats!

Yeah, that's fantastic!  It looks very textured as well.  Are any parts raised up off the page a little?

Very striking but the question that all original art collectors want to know. Can she play the ukulele?

Interesting the way he brought her hair down in front of her eye, almost as if bringing the viewer to look deep into her soul! Really nice and beautiful piece which captures her very essence of life!

Such a unique piece. Is it small or large art?

Thanks Andre!  It's painted edge-to-edge 11x17 with ribbon outlining the border so displays as large art.

It is important to do a self breast exam.  Breast tissue exams should be part of everyone's primary health care, and many people do self-exams monthly, in between annual doctor visits.

Oh wow, that's actual ribbon that outlines the border?  David Mack's artistry and use of mixed media is unparalelled and always mesmerizing.  This piece is extremely beautiful, Dino, well done!!

Being able to share images (be it a photo or scan) of amazing pieces like this, is obviously the best part of CAF.  But to fully appreciate the high-concept execution of all these comibined techniques, this really needs to be studied in person.  As the proud owner, you are lucky enough to get to do that.  Have fun!

I have to admit I am not a big fan of the story, but the art was out of this world great. And your piece is just amazing. Congrats.

For several years starting in the very early 2000s, I used to hit up David at multiple cons every year and try to convince him to part with one of his Kabuki covers. It got to the point that if he spotted me from a far walking towards his table, he smiled, knowing I was going there just to ask him to sell me one of the Kabuki covers and also knowing he was going to refuse me once again. I eventually gave up, but seeing this makes me think maybe I should've focused more on getting a splash page! This mixed media piece is a stunning feast for the senses....

David Mack is working on a whole other level! And this piece shows why. Such a stunning piece that mixes several types of media together as only Mack could. Huge congrats!
