Lovely illustration by the finest children’s illustrator ever, Arthur Rackham. Every Rackham illustration is a little jewel, and this one is no exception. Published in 1919 in the book, “Some British Ballads,” for the story, “The Duke of Gordon’s Daughter,” this is an illustration of Jean, who gave up everything to marry a soldier and became impoverished (don’t worry, the soldier becomes rich in the end and Jean does just fine).
