Published in the intro section of the "Lobo -The Last Czarnian" trade as a full page. In my humble opinion there’s noting more useless than Ebay-seller/art auction/CAF member – "descriptions" that tell what you can see on a page (or panels). But in the case of this nice Biz-study it was so tempting to do exactly this, just to make sure that you, dear reader, do not miss anything of this 12 x 15 inch mix of nice inked try-outs ! From left to right: Superman, Batman, Wolverine, „Captain Zooom“(?!), Joe Pinneaples (from the „ABC Warriors“ – his first big comic workload at 2000AD – buy it if you don’t know it: collected under „The Black Hole“, written by Pat Mills), a slimy wobble guy, an ape-face - smoking a joint, a deaf looking fat dude, a hamster (!), 2 full apes, a guy that gets his butt kicked, a beautiful woman face, a fat weirdo reading a book and of course a bunch of Lobo faces and an almost full body Lobo – highly similar to a published page image. Lobo has the Lenny Kilmister(Motorhead) hairstyle here instead of the earlier Keith Giffen drawn „pointed“ hair from the first mini-series – I think that page was directly drawn after the first mini-series in late 1991. Look up my other Bisley stuff, including a self portrait that you will love and a Lobo splash, if you like what you see here !

very very nice, this was publiashed in some book I cant rememebr but Im sure youre aware of, I have a few of his rapidograph self portrats from this same era, and book publication, and a pretty good female warrior that was also printed in that same book. Thanks for sharing this oldy, I do enjoy his earlier exploring sketch stuff.

i also have a couple of these, some self portraits in what appears to be the same pen and same session as yours here, as well as a warrior girl that he painted later. theyre both in my gallery if youre curious. cheers.

This (along with 2 other pages of studies) was printed in the Lobo: Last Czarnian trade paperback that came out in 1991. Nice to finally see it online!

These were published pre-internet so a comics book artist's process was a complete mystery to me and these pages at the start of the Lobo graphic novel provided a real inspiration to me and probably many others who saw them
