Description
John Tartaglione: Classics Illustrated #151, Complete 45-page Story, "Won by the Sword" Original Art (Gilberton, 1959). John Tartaglione received his art training at Pratt Institute and the Traphagen School of Fashion. He drew two issues for the Classics Illustrated series, "Won by the Sword" and "Tom Brown's Schooldays". For Dell Comics, John drew Burke's Law, Ben Casey, and the Dell comic book biographies of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Later for Marvel Comics, he drew The Life of Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa of Calcutta. George A. Henty's tale Won by the Sword: A Tale of the Thirty Years War is set in France during the latter part of the Thirty Years' War -- the time of Richelieu, of Mazarin, and Anne of Austria. The hero, Hector Campbell, is the orphaned son of a Scottish officer in the French Army. John Tartaglione's detailed artwork has the ring of authenticity, and features well-researched period details. The pages each have an image area measuring 12" x 18", and aside from a few minor art corrections, they are in excellent condition.
