A classic story about prejudice and Gabriel the bugle player of the Commados playing jazz in a club. Theses were compelling human dramas as brothers during the war were not brothers at home. Ayers and Severin added a lot of depth to every story, but took their skills to greater heights when the challenge and story were for higher stakes.
What choices on this page. Stark realism, then those notes drawing his attention to the jazz club. I love this issue, and the stories they tackled. And while Ayers pencils are crisp and lovely, the page screams Severin. When he inked, much like Murphy Anderson, his style would often dominate. What a cool find. Big congrats!
