Jason, this is definitely a sweet double page splash. I've long been a Chaykin fan, so it's cool to see him drawing characters he doesn't typically draw! But... "signature scotch tape “patches” ? I've been in the hobby for almost a quarter century and I've seen a lot of Chaykin art, but this is the first time I can remember ever seeing a bunch of scotch tape placed all over a piece. Maybe they look different when they're old and yellowed and I never realized they were pieces of scotch tape? Don't know, but even on contemporary art I've never seen it. So odd!

HA!  Thanks for that comment, Ruben!  That is so funny; I have seen the scotch tape used on at least a "pocket" of his modern work (I have another page of Satellite Sam character sketches of his, and my friend has a similar one and they were on a bunch of the pieces in his portfolio when I saw them a couple years ago), and I thought it was (of course) strikingly different.  I think Marcus is right: Chaykin does it because he's Chaykin, but I honestly don't know when he started and stopped (or even if he did stop) the practice...

I guess I meant "signature" in the "individual / does anyone else do this?" definition, not "this is a practice he has used all along, and is well-known for" definition.  I probably misused that, or could have chosen a better word (sorry) and will update that wording.  You have, without question, seen more of Mr. Chaykin's art than I have, and if it leaves you scratching your head, I should choose a different word. :)  Thanks for your comment (as always) Ruben and everyone!

"There's a bunch of us and one of you."  Famous last words to Cap, bwahaha... what a stunner.  Chaykin's versatility is impressive, and his patented techniques (and how they hum with sweet results) further his case as the MacGyver of comic art as far as I'm concerned.  High praise indeed, Mr. Chaykin. I just love how even the speckles at bottom made their way onto the final product.  Your discerning eye and taste continue to serve you well, my friend !

That's an experimental thing that Chaykin has enough clout to use.  It might have been done to affix the tight spots.   The computer colors are more advanced and would have yielded the effect he was looking for.  The dps shows the intrigue build with Cap coming in hot ready to take on These New Avengrers.  Even they aren't sure what to do in the intimidating presence of Cap.

Thanks, Marcus - I think that's exactly why he used the tape, too, and looking at the published pages you can see some of the "hotter" tape overdubs...  (Although his choice of where and when to use them is deliciously odd: to highlight 1959 Cap's fingers, shield band / holder rivets, and chin in panel 1 (along with the thumbs - and only the thumbs - of the machine gun-wielding heroes) for example...).  I find these tape "touch ups" very enchanting when looking at the original pages, and stepping back to then look at the storytelling elements (and the drama they convey) on the pages really makes it a fun piece to study.  Thanks, Marcus (and everyone)!

Yeah, I understood your use of the term to mean that it's something Chaykin is known for. It's just that I've never seen it until now, unless I'm completely forgetting or as I said earlier, not realizing that I may have in fact seen it but not realized it was scotch tape. Who knows? All that matters is that it's simply an interesting observation to me and it makes for a conversation starter, which is always a good thing!

Cap really doesn't look too happy here. Do you think it's because of his arms being tapped?

Joking aside, this beautiful spread really feels like a fun art student project with all the media Chaykin used.

Chaykin on Cap/Fury makes all the sense in the world. I didn't catch his part of the run, but he clearly was having fun with it. All those tricks! I bet it does feel pretty cool running your fingers over it, with all the thick paint, tape, spatters, and media he used to make this page pop. And I love with the floated panels do for the action. Very cool page. Big congrats!
