DescriptionArthur Saron Sarnoff (American, 1912-2000)At the Beach, Coronet magazine cover, August 1954 Gouache and tempera on board 21.5 x 15.75 in. Signed lower left This painting was reproduced as figure 877 in The Great American Pin-Up by Charles G. Martignette and Louis K. Meisel, Taschen, 1996. It looks like the artist at some point did a little bit of overpainting of the woman's face and hair to make her look less like Marilyn Monroe for reasons unknown. Social/Sharing |

Coronet was a culture and idealized Americana lifestyle magazine. A gorgeous blonde at the beach was presented as the American dream to aspire to. Classic view of what has shaped the culture in the past.
